Set Up Social Media

Lesson 20 Module 4

Even though you might not be active on every social media network right away (or ever), you should still register your blog name before someone else does.

Register on these social media sites

  • Pinterest. Pinterest is an awesome traffic source for new bloggers because Pinterest isn't actually a social media network, but rather a visual search engine. designed to send you traffic.
  • Twitter. Twitter is great for interacting with your audience and getting near instant feedback.
  • Youtube. YouTube is perfect for building brand loyalty and for getting traffic since YouTube is actually the world’s second largest search engine, behind only Google.
  • Facebook. Create a Facebook page and a Facebook group for your blog. Facebook is the largest social network and cannot be ignored.
  • Instagram. Rather than using Instagram as a way to get traffic to your blog, you can use Instagram to strengthen your brand. In other words, to help build a loyal following.

In order to grow your presence on social media, you will need to do more than just share your content and hope it spreads.

What you need is a way to expand your audience outside of your small social circle. We can do that by encouraging your readers share your content with their followers.

Your readers will play an integral part in your blogs' popularity. So we need to not only write shareable content, but we need to make it as simple as possible for your readers to share your content.

We are going to be using the Social Warfare plugin to help us do that.

Here's what you can do with this plugin.

  • Automatically add social media share icons at the end of your blog posts.
  • Add static share icons that stay on the page as you scroll down.
  • Control how your content is shared, by using a custom share message and image.
  • Adds "Save" buttons directly on specified images for easy Pinterest sharing.
  • Click To Tweet, which lets your visitors share snippets from your blog post directly to Twitter.

Social Warfare is $29 to unlock all the features - but if all you want is the sharing icons just use the free version.
